How many addresses does Nexus Market have?

Three. They are equal and point at the same store. There is no main address and no backup.

Do I need a VPN?

No. Tor is the layer that matters for reaching the market. A VPN on top is optional and does not replace Tor.

Can I use a clearnet gateway like onion.to?

You can reach the site through one, but the gateway sees your whole connection. For a marketplace, that usually defeats the point of using Tor.

Does this site check whether the addresses are up?

Why do the addresses start with "nexus"?

It is a vanity prefix the operator chose. It is a reasonable sign, but verify the full string, not the prefix.

Is this the official site?

It is a reference. The market is the market. Use the addresses in the block at the top, and check them the way the verify page describes.
